About Google Sitelink

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

SEO News - Google sitelinks has been subject of conversation among many SEOs as Google has not mentioned how they come up with the site links. There has been many theories about how to achieve them but all of them were nothing but theories.

Now ready to hear how you can really get your sitelink? When Google recgonize the user’s entry as a known brand, then it gives that site sitelinks.

For example if you type in free credit report or freecreditreport, you will see a bunch of sites that come up none of them will have sitelinks. But if you type in freecreditreport.com then Google agonizes the brand and brings up FreeCreditReport.com in its search results will associate sitelinks to it.

A better example is Startbucks Coffee. If you go in Google and type in coffee, Startbucks usually comes out on first page sometimes second. But if you type in Starbucks Coffee, Google will automatically recognizes that user is searching for the Starbucks coffee brand and this time will assign Startbucks sitelinks.

This Google service is designed to help their users to find the exact website and the page they are looking for.

So promote Your Brand!

More to come as I learn more about sitelinks…see you soon.

Stop Words No More! But You Should Not Care!

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I was reading Dan’s Dan Thies blog earlier today and his new post Stop Words Are Dead! Did I Miss Another Memo? I came to realize how indifferent I am to this news. It is not news really, I have noticed this for a while now.

If you don’t know what Stop Words are, they are words such as “and”, “is”, “or” that were often ignored by major search engines. They often did not get indxes or returned in the SERPs becasue they were considered too common and so unique.

So SEO and content specialists often treid to avoid those as much as possible and write contents with fewer Stop Words. They would try to stay away from using those in their h1-h5 tags, title tags, article titles, and etc.

Why Should You Not Care?
If you are a legitimate website owner with a legitimate commercial or non commercial purpose, you should not care at all. It is the black hat SEO and content specialists who often updated their website to increase fake traffic to their website should worry about this. If you are online for long term, I say careless about such development and focus on natural content writing and build linking to improve your websites SEO.

Google Owns an SEO Company! A simple Overlook or Google Hypocrisy?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

According to SiteProNews, the popular search engine Google owns an SEO company. SiteProNews. Google has been a strong critical of SEO firms in the past and it often insists that its natural search results are fair and none sponsored. Google claims that it does not take money for natural search engine positioning and it does not expose its complex search algorithm to any company.

This is how it went down; Google acquired DoubleClick a while back, so it also inherited a SEO company owned by DoubleClicked called Performics. This has raised questions and doubts about Google’s sincerity about its fairness in organic search results. Google has also expressed that they have no plan of disposing the company.

So is this a simple overlook by Google? Does a big company like Google overlook such huge conflict of interest? Or is Google not practicing the words they preach and the old saying that “there is a price for everything” is completely relevant in this case?
